Hori Portable Gaming Monitor

Every gamer, at one point in time, has wished they brought their own monitor with them while away from their home. Some people bring their own TV when they’re going out of town. Hori is a company dedicated to making premium gaming gadgets, and they have launched their very own Hori Portable Gaming Monitor.

Portable Gaming Monitor

The Hori Portable Gaming Monitor is a universal portable screen that lets you input movies or games via HDMI. Built with a 15.6 inch 720p LCD screen, sharing with someone won’t be too much of a problem. It comes with a built-in leatherette casing that slightly protects the screen from bumps and falls.

Due to its all plastic frame, it weighs only 3 pounds. It is incredibly light for travel and also making it possible to use the leatherette casing as a stand. You can easily put this in your bag anytime you want.

Additionally, the Hori Portable Gaming Monitor also has built-in speakers which get the job done. Not very crisp and clear but considering how small the speakers are, it is impressively loud. Of course, an external speaker or a headset would produce better sound quality.

Side Ports:

You can pretty much attach anything to this device, especially with the 2 HDMI ports built into it. If you have a Nintendo switch with a 6.2-inch screen and you want a bigger option, this will suffice. Other consoles can be used as well such as the PlayStation consoles, the Xbox family or even a PC. This is a universal monitor that will display anything you input.

Aside from the 2 HDMI ports, there is also a MENU button, POWER button, ENTER button and the volume rockers. Also, there is a power supply port to power up this device.

Lastly, the Hori Portable Gaming Monitor has two 30mm headphone jacks. Designed for competitive gaming, they made sure both players could enjoy the audio properly. Unlike other portable monitors who forces players to share headphones, Hori is much more thoughtful in this regard.

Performance:

While the 720p resolution is a bit disappointing, the Hori Portable Gaming Monitor makes up for it on performance. It has a 60 Hz refresh rate and an 8 ms response time which results in a very low-lag experience and virtually no delay. I have tested this against a normal 50-inch television and the difference is very noticeable. Especially when you’re playing fighting games where every second of punches are important, this could come in handy.

The screen has a matte finish to remove glare. If you’re playing against a friend and you’re sitting side by side, you won’t be looking at the screen directly in front. A matte finish will ensure that you can see clearly even at an angle.

The Hori Portable Gaming Monitor does not have an internal rechargeable battery. You always need to be beside an outlet to plug in your gaming console anyway. However, some people would love to have it as an option especially if your console is something like the Nintendo Switch. Because of the lack of battery, the Hori Portable Gaming Monitor doesn’t heat up too much even with prolonged use.

The Hori Portable Gaming Monitor scores an 8.0 out of 10 in our books. Keep in mind, the Hori portable gaming monitor is not meant to be a replacement for any household TV. Instead, a very good alternative for travelers and for people who desire a second monitor at home.

The refresh rate and response time of this device make it a very good screen to play on, despite its disappointing 720p resolution. You won’t be able to maximize your HDMI cable and console with this resolution. The sound quality also isn’t the best but they make up for it with 2 headphone jacks that allow 2 players to connect their personal headphones.

Furthermore, the Hori Portable Gaming Monitor isn’t meant to be the best, but to be portable and functional. Despite its flaws, I would still recommend this product for people who have the need for it. Whether you need a second monitor, a portable monitor you can bring anywhere, or you’re always fighting with someone in your house for the TV,  the Hori Portable Gaming Monitor is a decent monitor that will quench your gaming thirst.
