Sennheiser 4.50BT Review

2018 is about to end, and there is a very good chance that your mobile phone lacks a headphone jack. If you are looking for a good wireless headphone, then you don’t need to look further. I’ve been using the Sennheiser 4.50BT for a month now, and it’s been a very solid overall headphone.

Choosing the right accessory can be really tricky. So many good choices out there at several price points. For me, in-ear earphones and on-ear headphones are just not comfortable. Maybe my ears are just sensitive, but i don’t like it when something is pressed up against my ears.

As I make my decision to purchase over-ear headphones, there are certain criteria that are very important to me. Lets take a deeper look at why the Sennheiser 4.50BT is the best mid range Bluetooth headphone you can buy right now.

A Solid Overall Wireless Headphone

Design

The entire headphone is made out of plastic, like most headphones out there for lightweight experience. (you don’t want your headphones to be as heavy as a helmet, believe me!) The Sennheiser 4.50BT only weighs 0.5 lbs. Having said that, the finish doesn’t look and feel cheap. Also, the plastic material makes the headphone very elastic. The headphone itself can bend up to 180 degrees.

The earcups and the headband has a leather finish which makes the headphone very easy to clean. Memory foams are installed in the earcups for very comfortable use. The opening on the earcups are a little narrow, but should not be a problem unless you have very big ears. Also the headband has very nice fit, so that it squeezes your head properly for noise isolation. However, due to this tight seal around your ears, the trade-off is breathability. Prolonged use or using this for exercise will cause your ears to sweat.

Portability wise, the Sennheiser 4.50BT does a pretty decent job. It can fold up to 86 cu. Inches and comes with a free case. Disappointingly, the case included is a soft case which won’t protect your headphone against impact and pressure inside your bag. The soft case however, can protect you from scratches, and has all the necessary space for accessories.

Controls

Everything you need to control this device, is located on the right earcups. In here, you will find the volume rocker, power button and the arrow buttons which is used to skip tracks. In addition, theres is a micro-USB slot used to charge the device, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Sadly, there is no designated button for one of its main features, which is noise cancelling. In order to engage the noise cancelling feature, you have to hold down both volume buttons for 3 seconds.

Sound Quality

On this price range, I can confidently say that this is top notch. It has excellent base, good mids and decent highs. The clarity of the sounds are very good because of the very low sound leak. The earcups does a very good job sealing all the sounds in your ear.

Moreover, you can also download the Sennheiser Captune app on your mobile device for more personalization. It may not be as good as the personalizations allowed in the Sennheiser PXC 550 but it’s still something. The app is available whether your an IOS or Android user.

The microphone however, is a bit disappointing. It’s not very good and not very clear. Although people buying this product may not be using this for calls, it’s still important to note that little shortcomings.

Noise Cancellation

Noise cancelling is one of the main reasons for buying an over-ear headphone, and because of this, the Sennheiser 4.50BT does not disappoint. The strength of its noise cancellation is at medium level unlike the JBL E65BTNC, but it is enough to block most sounds. However when it comes to blocking cabin pressure, this is a winner. Perfect for travellers who are always riding airplanes.

Also, it is very important to note that sound quality diminishes slightly when the noise cancellation is active. Most Noise Cancelling headphones have this kind of problem due to technological restrictions.

Connectivity

The Sennheiser 4.50BT is equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 for its wireless connectivity. It has ridiculous range even with obstacles which is excellent for indoor use. What separates this from other products, is its capability to connect to 2 devices at the same time. Not a lot of devices have this feature.

Also, it is equipped with NFC pairing. This is a cool feature that fast paced people would love to have. Simply turn on NFC on your mobile device and tap it to the earcups and it will connect instantly. This is currently the fastest way to connect your mobile phone to the headphone.

Lastly, if you went out of battery, have no fear. The Sennheiser 4.50BT has an option for a wired usage. Another amazing feature of this device, is the 3.5mm jack locking mechanism. Simply twist the jack to the right as soon as you’ve plugged it in and it will not come off until you unlock it or cut the wire. This is to prevent accidentally yanking the wire and damaging the port eventually.

Battery Life

The Sennheiser 4.50BT has an impressive battery life with fast charging capability. It takes 2 and half hours to fully charge this device which can last up to 25 hours of continuous playback at average volumes and noise cancellation turned off. If you opt to use the Noise Cancelling Feature all the time, this device, when fully charged, can last up to 19 hours.

Rating 9.0 out of 10

The Sennheiser 4.50BT is a very versatile headphone, which is the best in this price point, in my opinion. It has very good sound quality which is amplified by the excellent sound seal on your ears.

For the active people who wants to use this for gym and other sports, the leather finish on the headband and earcups are ideal. Unlike other brands that has a cloth finish, this allows the headphone to become “sweat proof” and very easy to clean. The tight fit around your head gives you that secure feeling even if your running.

For content creators and other people who will use this for work, prolonged use is comfortable and will not hurt your ears. You can get a little sweaty in your ears, but it’s nothing a little adjustment and movement won’t fix.

For travellers, this device completely removes cabin pressure which is the whole point of buying these kinds of products when your a traveller. Battery life is well enough for any trip without ever needing to charge it again until you get to your destination.

Whoever you are, this product can cater to your every need without breaking you bank. This is a highly recommended product if you are looking for a solid all around, everyday use headphone. You can purchase the Sennheiser 4.50BT at Amazon.com.
